Declaration

The vast majority of children are born with a talent for music.  They are also born with the ability to speak.  However, the ability to play a musical instrument is not biologically inborn.  For this reason, learning to speak and learning to play a musical instrument are two different processes.

Reading music is a very important part in learning to play a musical instrument.  The benefits of reading music are numerous, and therefore should not be postponed.  One of these benefits is the ability to study Scales, Exercises and Etudes (SEE).  Students by studying SEE can more readily transfer information learned from it to other musical material.  Consequently, students not utilizing SEE will struggle to achieve technical accuracy when practicing artistically advanced pieces, such as by Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, etc.

The decision to study any musical instrument is an important one, because by understanding the art of music, we can gain a love and appreciation for music that we may have otherwise never experienced.
